Michael Smith is a Senior Fire Investigator with 30 years of experience in Law Enforcement and Forensic Fire and Explosive Investigations. He specializes in determining the origin and cause of fires and explosions.

Michael is certified as a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) by the International Association of Arson Investigators Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). Michael spent 12 years on the Baltimore County Police Arson Team and Eight years as a task force officer for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Michael has experience in testifying in the Federal court system and is recognized as an expert In the state court systems. 

Throughout his career, Michael has investigated a wide range of residential, commercial, vehicle, equipment, fires and explosion incidents.

In addition to his work with Atlantic Fire Investigation, Michael has over 40 years in the Volunteer Fire Service. His combination of practical firefighting knowledge, technical expertise, and commitment to professional excellence enables him to provide clients with reliable, defensible investigative findings for insurance carriers, attorneys, corporations, and property owners.
